Happy TeenagerThis program for spanish-speaking adolescents is designed to reduce teen violence and to build confidence in making positive healthy choices.

Session 1: Self-Esteem

Teens learn what self-esteem is and how they feel about themselves. They learn ways to feelings of worth and competence by using the Six Pillars of Self-Esteem.

Session 2: Communication

Teens learn positive, effective and appropriate ways to communicate. Through role-play and discussion, they gain skills to improve their ability to express themselves and be heard and listened to.

Session 3: Setting Goals

This session teaches teens what goals are and why it is important to set goals throughout their lives. They learn the impact of goal-setting using all the human dimensions (physical, social, psychological and spiritual) and how to set their own goals.

Session 4: Conflict Management

Because teens face daily conflict within themselves and with other people, this session helps them recognize what conflict is, as well as positive ways to deal with it. They learn skills to reduce their anger and deal with differences more effectively and appropriately.

Session 5: Peer Pressure

Peer pressure is powerful! Teens learn why and how friends place peer pressure on them. This session teaches effective ways to avoid succumbing to negative peer influence.

Session 6: Drug and Alcohol Prevention

Teens learn what drugs are and why they are dangerous. They learn skills to prevent becoming involved with alcohol and drugs and the community resources available to help if needed.

Session 7: Putting it All Together - Support Group

This session provides group interaction through role-playing and discussion to put together all the information learned in the sessions. It provides an opportunity for each teen to look at himself/herself and see how he/she has already changed, and what they would like to change in the future.
